how to match letters in a word (can't use regex)
There's a problem that I'm having. I want to match two words in Java, but my code fails. Here's what I've tried so far:
String check = "apple" + "apple" + "apple";
check = check.substring(1,check.length()-1);
if (check.matches("app") || check.matches("apple")) {
System.out.println("The match is working!");
}
I've tried various methods, but everytime it prints the message "The match is working!"
I can't use regex, as the other files in the project can't.

Assuming that you have a String which contains only one word, you can just loop through the char array and check if the first character is an "a" and the last is an "p".
String check = "apple" + "apple" + "apple";
String cleanedCheck = check.substring(1);
char[] charArray = cleanedCheck.toCharArray();
for (int i = 0; i -1 && words[1].indexOf("apple") > -1) {
System.out.println("The match is working!");
}
